Park City Residence
This site is located outside Park City, Utah in an area called the Promontory, the location where the golden spike completed the transcontinental railroad. The local mountains provided Studio 9one2 with an exquisite opportunity to create a building that nestles seamlessly into the hillside. This home was designed to integrate into its mountain setting both in terms of its rustic materials as well as the overall massing. Much attention was paid to maintaining the visual continuity of the mountain’s natural serenity. The building steps up naturally, creating multiple interior levels. Each of the spaces on these levels takes advantage of the different views and sun orientations available to the site. The building consists of natural and simple rural shapes, composed mostly from simple materials like slate, western red cedar, and Corten corrugated steel. The driveway and the covered parking areas, including garage, were cleverly nestled into the site. While the use of boulders removed from the building pad helped to preserve the look of uninterrupted natural terrain.
