Golden Bridge Yoga Studio
Golden bridge is a 10,000 square foot yoga studio and cafe. It specializes in Kundalini yoga and amazing healthy fresh foods. The building is situated on a main intersection in Hollywood. This adaptive reuse is intended to marry the existing original corner building and its art-deco motif with a sympathetic modern addition, crafted to compliment the existing, creating harmony and balance. Through the use of a horizontally projecting halo at the upper roof level, the new vertical counterpart embraces the old. Designed and built as a grocery store in the 1930’s the building survived multiple tenant changes and had fallen into disrepair. In recent years it had become a second hand clothing and thrift store. The stucco covered brick and poured concrete building also featured an amazing bowstring truss interior ceiling. Ultimately the existing space needed to house 3 separate yoga studios. We wanted to continue to respect and celebrate the trusses so we chose to use ribbed lexan panels either side of the trusses for sound privacy between the studios allowing the look of the bowstrings to remain intact. Sound insulated collapsible Hufcor doors where used to allow for one grand space for special gatherings. The original building was 4000 sf. We built a 3 story addition on the west side of the lot to house the café on the ground floor, office management spaces on the second floor and private yoga studios on the top floor with views out to Hollywood hills. The exterior features teak wood slatted trellises and walls, with a very earthen raked stucco finish for parts of the building, giving it a very zenny hand built feeling which enhances the introspective experience of meditation.
